Artist Statement
Abdul Syukur
Spiritualisme dalam budaya tradisi menjadi inspirasi yang banyak memengaruhi cara saya berkarya. Khususnya bagaimana spiritualisme ini bertautan dengan dengan budaya modern.
Teknik yang saya gunakan umumnya menggunakan teknik pilin, lukisan, bordir, sulam dan jahit. Teknik ini saya pilih karena memungkinkan saya untuk menghasilkan berbagai bentuk tak terduga.
Garis dan warna pada karya saya mengekspresikan ambiguitas antara apa yang profan dan sakral . Sebagai seniman, saya berharap karya saya bisa memberi kesadaran akan nilai-nilai spiritual yang terkandung dalam berbagai eksistensi budaya tradisi.
Spiritualism in the traditional culture is an inspiration which influences me a lot when creating artworks. Specifically in how spiritualism is interrelated with the modern culture.
The technique I use usually is coiling, painting, embroidery, and sewing. I choose the techniques because they enable me to create unpredictable forms. Lines and colors in my artworks express the ambiguity between the profane and the sacred. As an artist, my hope is my artworks could bring an awareness of the spiritual values embodied within the various existence of traditional cultures.
